How to Look for Financial Advice on the Web

Talk about "financial advice" to most people and they may think of tax advisors, investment advisors, bankers, and other professional "money advisors", many of whom are required to be licensed before giving out advice. But the Internet has introduced a new kind of financial advisor to the world: the random blogger.

Yes, it's true. Many people are turning to Web blogs for advice on how to make money, save money, and invest money. If you thought going to your commission-based advisor was risky, then you may be dubious about the kind of advice you will find for free on the Web. And you should be. There are a lot of hucksters out there.

But we have found that the Web is a pool filled with schools of fish as well as sharks. And from those schools of fish we believe there are honest, simple lessons that anyone can learn in a reasonably safe fashion. Those lessons don't offer deep, profit-making insights into making money in stock options or foreign exchange markets. They are just good, common sense ideas or personal anecdotes.

When people share their experiences with each other, the overall ability of a group of people to avoid making mistakes improves considerably. By teaching each other what we have learned from life experience we help each other advance and grow.

And so we set out to find a number of blogs that share good financial advice. These are not blogs written by licensed professionals but by people who have traveled down the road of life and learned a thing or two along the way.

The Ben Factor is a personl blogger's exploration of the world of money from a layman's point of view.

The Furlong Blog is a curious blog offering opinions on big news that may affect people's incomes, lifestyles, etc.

The Money Saving Queen is all about saving money. Very slick design but the articles cover a lot of useful tips.

The Money Time Blog collects and shares all sorts of good tips on how to save money, make money, etc. It's a simple blog intended for people who don't want a lot of legalese and financial jargon.
